Project on Developing Marketing Strategies of Horticultural Crops in Meghalaya and Tripura was launched at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 18th November 2016. The project guided by Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Social Sciences, as a Co-PI in North Eastern Region will be implemented in Meghalaya, Tripura and Asssam. The main activities in the project will be to analyse the status of horticulture in the state, identification of crops, analysis of value chain of each of the selected crops, distribution, market analysis and policy suggestions. In the welcome address, Dr. A.K. Tripathi, opined that before developing the marketing strategies in NE Region, it is imperative to have stakeholders workshop from where valuable inputs may prove as a way forward for the project. Dr. Shalendra Singh, Assistant Director, CCSNIAM, Jaipur and PI of the project, gave an outline of the project and expressed that collection of horticultural produce from the farmers is the major concern in NE Region because of difficult geographical terrain. Dr. Biswajit Das, PS, Horticulture, ICAR RC for NEH Region Tripura Centre, who is handling the project in Tripura, emphasised about the benefits that farmers are getting in practical terms from their investments. The project was formally launched by Dr. Shalendra Singh and Dr. A.K.Tripathi. The programme was attended by Secretary and officials of Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board, members of TREE Foundation, interns from Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Secretary of RiBhoi Milingi Multipurpose Society, farmers from Mawrynd Pneng and the scientists of ICAR RC for NEH Region. In the concluding session, a brainstorming session on developing marketing strategies for horticultural produce in the region was held among the stakeholders present in the programme.
